Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Canada on September 10, 2026, accompanied by his wife, Olena Zelenska. In a post on X, Zelenskyy announced his arrival and emphasized that Canada remains one of Ukraine’s closest partners.
“Canada was and remains one of our closest partners. We appreciate all the support provided by Canadians and the decisions that have helped Ukraine stand, protect our people, and endure,” Zelenskyy said.
The Ukrainian president said that a series of important meetings and agreements were planned during the visit, with the aim of further strengthening the strategic relationship between the two countries in the years ahead.
Zelenskyy is expected to meet with Canadian Prime Minister Mark J. Carney, with discussions focusing on several key issues:
- Support for protecting Ukraine’s airspace,
- Preparations for the winter,
- Strengthening Ukraine’s resilience,
- Supporting the Ukrainian population,
- Expanding defense capabilities.
“We will discuss how to provide Ukraine with the capabilities it needs to defend itself,” Zelenskyy said.
Meanwhile, First Lady Olena Zelenska is expected to meet with philanthropists supporting Ukraine and visit Canadian counterparts of the “Superhero Schools,” similar institutions established in Ukraine.
Zelenskyy concluded his message by thanking everyone standing with Ukraine. The post also included a video showing his official aircraft landing in Canada, followed by a red-carpet reception accompanied by members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
Canada has been among the countries providing military, economic, and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in 2022.
The visit is aimed at further deepening bilateral relations and strengthening cooperation between Canada and Ukraine, particularly in the areas of defense, resilience, and support for the Ukrainian population.
